This is the painting that launched my ‘fish mounts’ series. Wanted to paint a crazy mounted trophy fish. And as I’ve mentioned several times I love fish, I love eyes, and I’m intrigued by animals evolving eyes as decoration to frighten predators. After this painting I got the idea to paint and ‘mount’ cutout fish. These are available under the first ‘Cutouts’ page.

This is a painting based on a photo of one of my favorite fishing spots. Started working on the painting, and while looking at the gaps between clouds I thought sometimes during daylight you almost forget the stars in the sky. Also played off how the gaps between the clouds mimicked the clouds themselves. Plus I love incorporating eyes into landscapes as a metaphor for Mother Earth looking for respect.

Wanted to do bird somewhat like a rooster crowing at the rising sun. Also wanted to make the head look like a large eye made up of smaller eye ‘feathers’. The surrounding ‘eyelashes’ I wanted to also make feathers.

Always looking for species that do lend themselves to the segmentation of my stained glass style. Pheasant in South Dakota are iconic.

Wanted to create a starfish in my 'stained glass style'. Question was what theme or motif? Finally occurred to me – stars of course.

This painting is based on a mixed media painting I did in college. Worked with some geologists in high school and college, and growing up in the Black Hills and near the Badlands you can’t help but notice the unique geography and be influenced by the vast landscapes. One of my least successful titles: land is sold with titles and summarized in abstracts. I needed to title this abstract landscape... almost works.

As a young boy I was fascinated with Indian culture. I used to read a lot of books about Indians and during Deadwood’s annual hometown celebration the Sioux would come ride horses and walk in the parade. Then they would go dance, for ‘change’ people would throw on the ground. Pissed me off, but still thought they portrayed themselves with dignity. Loved the dances and loved their dress. Thought I would portray the Sioux medicine man and eventual warrior Sitting Bull in my stained glass style. Wanted to fill the shapes with a mix of geometric and organic patterns.

For this painting I researched photos of birds whose bodies were already eye shaped. Going in I knew I wanted the body to be an eye, I wanted to decorate the neck with overlapping eyes to mimic feathers, and I wanted the head to also be an eye. The irony is the best photo I found to be an Ibis, which made the pun-loving me delighted. I always try to repeat shapes so after I drew the long arched beak, I decided I wanted arched eyelash looking feathers on the head and neck. I also then added the moon in a stage I thought would also suggest the beak.

If interested in buying my art, whether original or reproductions, please contact me. Long term goal is to set up online sales and inventory. May take a while.
All my original works are framed. Some of the frames are very heavy so until I can automate my gallery pricing and shipping I will probably have to do custom price and shipping quotes
(depending on 'ship to' location).
I do have several framed reproductions as well, hope to eventually link photos of all available reproductions as framed, for now if you would like to see framing pics, let me know.
Unframed reproductions will be shipped in poster tubes.
While I do not have prints of all my work in stock I do have a lot, and with at least a week or two turnaround I can get to the print shop and get reproductions printed.
The prints are available in their original size and most can be printed smaller as well. Let me know what you are interested in.
